The series was initially anticipated to launch in the fall of this year. However, with today’s announcement, an official release date for the highly-anticipated game has been set, placing both Take-Two and Rockstar’s credibility on the line. This development means their performance will be under close scrutiny from gaming enthusiasts, discussion boards, and shareholders alike.
“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game,” Rockstar Games said in a statement.
“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve,” Rockstar added.
Investors see GTA 6 as the next cash cow for Take-Two and a successor to GTA V. Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, had previously claimed the release date for the game had been kept vague to create hype.

Competing firms recognized the significant threat posed by GTA 6 to their earnings and chose not to release any new products near Rockstar’s launch date.
Early this year, a leading executive from a major gaming company stated, “Rockstar Games tends to drain substantial funds and, crucially, considerable time from the industry. We aim to avoid getting caught in something like that. Therefore, we are developing several alternative strategies for our projects.”
“We completely back Rockstar Games in taking extra time to bring their artistic vision for Grand Theft Auto VI to life,” stated Take-Two (NASDAQ:
