It turns out that the report about a Chrono Trigger remake was merely due to a misinterpretation.
Well, darn. Although the information provided at the event was accurate in stating that the translator referenced a remake during Comic Con, it appears that
The translator misunderstood what Yuji Horii had said.
. Once video evidence came out and people heard what Horii said during the presentation, there was no mention of a remake, and it was something the translator added themselves.

When talking about JRPGs that made a global impact, Chrono Trigger stands out. This timeless classic continues to be discovered by new audiences and remains impressive despite the passage of time. Nevertheless, Chrono Trigger seems to have been overlooked compared to other major franchises that have received contemporary remakes.

I use “reportedly” because currently, only a few accounts exist of individuals claiming they heard from Yuji Horii, the mastermind behind Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest, that one was being developed. Even without video evidence or an official announcement, the situation seems hopeful.

As of this writing, three individuals assert that they overheard Yuji Horii reveal information about an upcoming remake of Chrono Trigger. Despite minor variations in their accounts, the core narrative remains consistent: At a Comic Con event, as the host murmurs something to him, Horii mentions details regarding a potential remake of Chrono Trigger prematurely. Realizing his mistake, he appears to regret having disclosed this information too soon.
The initial entry is from df_tarocco_1 on the Chrono Trigger fan subreddit, stating that Horri inadvertently revealed details about “Chrono Trigger” during an interview:
The second source comes from Reddit user TheFishyOne, who states that the event translator noticed Horii’s mistake, and Horii instructed everyone not to disclose this information to others.
The third point refers to a post on X made by CammyZura, who similarly asserts that Horii was responsible for leaking this information. They also include an amusing remark from the host directed at the interpreter. Within the response section of the same post, CammyZura brings up another detail aligning with TheFishyOne’s statement that Horii instructed everyone present not to share what they heard.
Sadly, there isn’t currently any video evidence of this occurrence, which means we cannot confirm whether it truly transpired. Nevertheless, since three separate individuals assert they attended the event and witnessed the incident, there is some guarded optimism. Here’s hoping additional definitive proof surfaces shortly.
