Spotify Seizes Post-Ruling Moment, Unveiling iOS Update for “Lower Prices & Greater Control”

Following a significant decision in the high-profile Apple versus Epic Games lawsuit, Spotify has been granted approval for a revised version of its iOS application in the United States.

In a “Time to Play Fair” blog post, the app store critic Spotify made this clear. Published originally yesterday (after the April 30th decision), the post restated the streaming service’s longstanding demands for modifications on iOS.

Many are aware that these updates encompass improved pricing display information and strengthened payment alternatives for Spotify. This has led to a considerably more seamless collaboration between Spotify and the Play Store manager, Google.

Within the same document, Spotify, which focuses on artificial intelligence, revealed that they had already submitted the necessary updates to Apple. Currently, the iPhone developer has approved these modifications.

After almost ten years,” Spotify updated the initial blog post today, “this change will at last enable us to openly display transparent pricing details and provide direct links for purchases, promoting clarity and options for American customers. This allows us to offer consumers better deals, greater control, and smoother access to the Spotify experience.

“There is still much work ahead, but today marks a substantial milestone for developers and entrepreneurs worldwide who aim to construct and contend on a fairer battleground. This signifies the beginning chapter of a new epoch, and we couldn’t be more prepared for the performance,” the firm concluded.

Not surprisingly, considering Spotify’s ongoing feud with Apple, the celebrations did not end there. Today, The New York Post conducted an amicable interview with CEO Daniel Ek, during which he seized the chance to criticize Apple’s “rather strict regulations” for application developers.

However, as Spotify conceded, more tasks remain concerning their disagreement within the App Store. Initially, the streaming platform continues to be involved in a regulatory conflict with Apple, albeit from afar, in the European Union, where appeals and additional penalties are currently underway.

In the U.S., Apple CEO Tim Cook reaffirmed his commitment to appealing the verdict from the Epic case yesterday, and this development will undoubtedly merit close attention going ahead. These remarks were made during Apple’s earnings call for the first quarter of 2025, with much of the discussion during the question-and-answer session centering around tariffs.

According to the related report, the head of Apple Music cited $26.65 billion in service income for the quarter, marking an increase of nearly 12% compared to the previous year. Altogether, it is mentioned that Apple reportedly has “well over” one billion subscriptions encompassing all their service offerings.
