(VMeeSolutions News) — Tools for Humanity, a venture initiated by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, intends to deploy numerous iris-recognition Orb units throughout the U.S., signaling significant growth for the firm and its innovative authentication solutions.
Beginning this week, residents of six U.S. cities—such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Atlanta—will have access to eye-scanning services via a spherical orb device installed at designated sites run by Tools for Humanity’s World project along with specific partner locations, according to an announcement made during an event on Wednesday evening. Until now, this technology had been tested only on a restricted basis within the country.
Led by co-founder and CEO Alex Blania, the firm presents the Orb as an advanced instrument for confirming individuals’ identities and ensuring they are genuine humans amid the increasing sophistication of AI-generated deepfakes. Participants who consent to the scanning process will be rewarded with a cryptocurrency token named Worldcoin from the company.
So far, over 12 million individuals have utilized the platform to confirm their identities in nations such as the Philippines, Portugal, and Thailand, the firm reports. Additionally, World’s Orb and the cryptocurrency have been involved in this initiative.

Adrian Ludwig, the lead designer at Tools for Humanity, mentioned that his company had preliminary discussions with U.S. regulatory bodies prior to their scheduled growth plans; however, he did not specify which agencies were involved. Additionally, Tools for Humanity stated that all collected data is encrypted and they do not retain any personally identifiable information.
Alongside its growth into the US market, Tools for Humanity revealed it has joined forces with Match Group Inc., the creator of various dating apps, to launch an age verification trial, beginning with Tinder users in Japan.
Match and rival Bumble Inc. have prioritized removing bad actors from their platforms to combat fake profiles supercharged by the rise of generative AI. Both have rolled out ID verification

And Tinder has brought aboard a new background check provider to offer daters extra peace of mind.
Ludwig stated that it will be up to Match to incorporate what he refers to as the “proof-of-humanity” credential into additional dating platforms such as Hinge or Match.com. Additionally, he foresees a scenario where an individual’s background check outcomes could be connected to their verified Orb identity; however, this would necessitate forming stronger alliances with multiple identity service providers.
For consumers, they prefer not to dwell on this technology,” Ludwig stated. “Instead, they focus on wanting to ‘date actual individuals.’
