The Upcoming Gamescom 2025 Sets New Expectations
The excitement is building as the world’s largest gaming event, Gamescom, is set to return to Cologne in just a few weeks. This year’s edition promises to be even more impressive than ever before, with expectations of record-breaking attendance and expanded exhibits.
Record-Breaking Growth
Koelnmesse, the organization behind Gamescom, has already projected new records for this year’s event. According to Gamescom Director Tim Endres, “The numbers speak for themselves. Gamescom 2025 will be bigger, more experiential, and once again become the center of the global gaming community.” One of the most notable signs of growth is the 11% increase in exhibitors compared to the same period last year. Last year, over 1,462 exhibitors from more than 60 countries participated, drawing around 335,000 visitors and over 32,000 trade professionals.
Major Companies Set to Participate
Interest from major game publishers and developers is at an all-time high. Some of the well-known names confirmed to attend include 2K, Bandai Namco, Bethesda, Blizzard Entertainment, Capcom, Electronic Arts, Konami, Nintendo, Sega, Ubisoft, and Xbox. In addition, hardware manufacturers like Asus will be present, along with streaming platforms such as Disney+ and Netflix, which have been increasingly involved in the gaming space.
Expanded Exhibition Space
To accommodate the growing demand, the exhibition space for the Entertainment Area will expand into Hall 8. This move aims to provide more room for exhibitors and attendees. The Indie Area will also see significant growth, filling half a hall for the first time. Meanwhile, the Event Arena will be located in Hall 1, where esports competitions and planned concerts will take place.
Highlights of the Event
One of the most anticipated events during Gamescom is Opening Night Live (ONL), which will be held in the Event Arena. This night typically features a variety of game reveals, including several world premieres. This year, it is expected to showcase the first unveiling of “Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.” The event will take place on August 19, with the pre-show starting at 7:30 PM and the main show beginning around 8:00 PM. Canadian journalist Geoff Keighley and Belgian host Eefje “Sjokz” Depoortere will co-host the evening.
Tickets and Opening Hours
Gamescom 2025 will run from August 20 to 24. The first day is reserved for trade visitors and media, but “Wildcard day tickets” are available for public entry starting at 1:00 PM. These tickets can be purchased on the official Gamescom website for 64 euros.
For Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, day tickets cost 30.50 euros, while reduced day tickets are available for 22 euros. Evening tickets, valid from 4:00 PM, cost 10 euros, and family tickets are priced at 68 euros. On Saturday, prices rise to 40 euros for regular day tickets, 31.50 euros for reduced tickets, 12.50 euros for evening tickets, and 84.50 euros for family tickets.
Discounted rates are available for students, apprentices, volunteers, retirees, seniors, and individuals with severe disabilities. Family tickets are valid for up to five people, including a maximum of two adults and three or four children aged seven to twelve years.
Private visitors can expect opening hours from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Thursday and Friday, and from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday.
