Moller-Maersk, signed an agreement on April 24th to form a broad collaboration aimed at advancing decarbonization technologies for maritime transport and enhancing global integrated logistics services. On Tuesday, HD Hyundai announced a collaboration with the prominent Danish logistics firm A.P. Moller-Maersk. Together, they aim to co-develop technologies for reducing emissions in maritime transport and offer comprehensive global logistics solutions.
On April 24th, an agreement was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) during a signing event held at the HD Hyundai Global R&D Center located in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. The gathering saw prominent attendees such as HD Hyundai Executive Vice Chairman Chung Ki-sun and Maersk Chairman Robert Maersk Uggla, alongside various other dignitaries.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Maersk plans to utilize HD Hyundai’s vessel decarbonization technology for its ships with the aim of decreasing carbon emissions. In turn, HD Hyundai intends to implement Maersk’s comprehensive logistics solutions more broadly throughout its various business units to enhance the efficiency and reach of their international supply chains.
The vessels scheduled for delivery from the South Korean firm will feature the navigation system Hinas, created by Avikus—a division of HD Hyundai—and the AI-driven solutions for reducing emissions and optimizing operational efficiency called OceanWise, also crafted by HD Hyundai Marine Solutions.
The two companies will then conduct a six-month pilot operation to verify the fuel savings and carbon reduction effects of the advanced navigation solution.

The two companies are also planning to optimize engine efficiency, increase container ship cargo capacity and retrofit dual-fuel propulsion systems. They will also assess the feasibility of the solid oxide fuel cell system with the recently established HD Hyundai’s subsidiary, HD Hydrogen.
Hyundai will use Maersk’s comprehensive logistics offerings to boost ocean freight operations through the utilization of Maersk’s extensive “East-West Network.” Additionally, they will take advantage of Maersk’s expertise in various areas including air cargo services, ground transport, and warehouse facilities.

Since 2021, HD Hyundai has provided Maersk with 19 methanol-fueled container ships, including the globe’s first ultra-large variant of this ship type, which was handed over last year, as per the South Korean firm.
