Intel is still enhancing the performance of its Arrow Lake Core Ultra 200S processors through an additional overclocking setting. These Arrow Lake processors debuted half a year back in October 2024. Although they weren’t subpar per se, they failed to impress PC gamers who opted instead for AMD’s more appealing 9800X3D gaming CPU despite budget constraints. Notably, at launch, the top-tier model—the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K—performed adequately or superiorly in certain benchmarks as highlighted in our detailed review.

However, despite this, the AMD offerings still significantly overshadowed them. It seemed almost unimaginable that PC enthusiasts would find reasons to consider any other processors within the lineup. But with multiple firmware upgrades and updated XMP memory settings, along with new overclocking profiles, these processors are finally beginning to reach their full potential.
Recently, Intel introduced their PowerBoost 200S overclocking profile for enhanced performance of the Arrow Lake series. However, a new iteration goes even farther. An individual conducted tests using the Intel Performance Optimization (IPO) tool with a Core Ultra 7 265K processor coupled alongside an RTX GeForce 5090D graphics card and DDR5-8000 RAM.
Core Ultra 7 265K
features a 20-core CPU consisting of 8 Performance Cores and 12 Efficient Cores, boasting a maximum turbo clock speed of 5.5 GHz and an “Ultra Boost” power output up to 250 watts. Fine-tuned by IPO configurations, this setup supports DDR5 memory running at 8000 MHz, which can be boosted to 8400 MHz; meanwhile, the performance cores reach frequencies as high as 5.4 GHz, whereas the efficient cores achieve up to 4.9 GHz. The base operating speeds provided out-of-the-box stand at 3.2 GHz for the performance cores and 2.1 GHz for the efficient ones.
On average, the IPO demonstrated only a slight increase of a few percentage points compared to Power Boost 200S; however, this was sufficient for many games to run approximately 10 frames per second quicker than with standard settings. Overall, it’s quite invigorating to observe how well Intel’s Core Ultra 200 series has held up over time with all these improvements, similar to the advancements seen in their Arc GPUs. However, disappointingly, IPO is presently accessible solely through Chinese original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), yet one can hope that this premium offering will eventually be launched worldwide.
