Wichita, Kan. (KSNW) — A Learjet 36A aircraft
departed from Wichita on Wednesday night
It is prepared for the next stage of its voyage. The aircraft along with its crew aims to accomplish a polar circumnavigation.
Shortly after midday Central Time on Friday, the Learjet achieved its initial objective of entering the southern polar region. This happened following a weather-related delay that caused the team to remain in Argentina for a longer period than anticipated.

, detailed the requirements for obtaining a Polar Circumnavigation Diploma:
He stated that an “aircraft needs to fly across both 75 degrees south latitude and 75 degrees north latitude, ensuring that the points where it crosses the equator are more than 90 degrees apart, before returning to its original departing airport.”
Rowe stated that passing through the 75-degree south and north latitudes counts as entering the polar zones and entitles one to receive the diploma.
“He stated that no Learjet had ever tried such a bold mission over both poles.”
The plan was to head back to Wichita on Saturday. But due to the weather-related delays, they will probably arrive in Wichita at some point on Sunday instead.

The initial Lear Jet sold in what was known as the Air Capital, during an era when the firm was referred to simply as Lear Jet rather than Learjet. According to Rowe, this particular aircraft—the Lear Jet 23-003—was instrumental in launching the business jet sector within Wichita.
