A tall couple has sparked curiosity—and confusion—online after revealing their unconventional bedroom solution to ensure better sleep—placing two California king beds side by side.
The video posted from the
TikTok
account
@reeltalloutdoors
shows the couple’s spacious bedroom setup.
The woman in the clip explains: “I don’t know other really tall couples are doing it but this is what we did to make sure that we both of us have the best sleep. Two California king [beds] next to each other. Perfect.”
The viral clip has drawn 6 million views since it was shared on June 20 and hundreds of comments, with users fascinated not only by the bed setup but also the size of the room required to accommodate it.
A caption on the video notes that the arrangement includes a custom-made headboard and matching bedspread, created by the man in the couple, identified as Kieffer.
According to the TikTok profile,
Kieffer is six feet and 10 inches tall, while his partner stands at six feet and two inches.
“Tall couple bed hack, two California kings with custom headboard (made by Kieffer), bedspread, and sheets,” explains a caption shared with the viral TikTok video. “This setup will be making its way to the new house as well because we can never go back to sharing again.”
California king beds are among the longest standard mattress sizes, measuring 84 inches in length—four inches longer than a regular king but also slightly narrower. The width of two combined spans a full 144 inches, or 12 feet, making the setup unusually expansive for most bedrooms.
While the couple did not elaborate on whether they sleep lengthwise or use the combined width for more individual space, the post underscores a broader issue faced by
very tall individuals—
finding comfortable sleep arrangements in a world not always built for height.
According to a
November 2020 study published in
The Lancet
, height disparities across the globe remain significant. The study, which analyzed data from 65 million people in 200 countries and territories, found that the average height of 19-year-old girls varied by more than 20 centimeters depending on the country. The tallest adolescent girls in 2019 came from nations including the Netherlands, Montenegro, Denmark, and Iceland. The shortest were in countries such as Guatemala, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Timor-Leste.
‘How Does This Solve the Problem’
The viral video sparked debate in the comments, with many TikTok users expressing bewilderment over how two California king beds next to each other could be a solution for taller individuals.
“Do you sleep horizontally?” one user, ladyfreedom, asked.
“So do yall sleep horizontally because how is this fixing the problem?” commented kaylaemaani.
Others chimed in with similar sentiments. “How does this help with height?” questioned RebelM_, while peace&love added: “I love it, but what does this have to do with being tall?”
User ellenmyer1 echoed the skepticism: “But how does this solve the problem? You just need the extra length, not the width right? Unless you’re sleeping lengthwise across both beds?”
Some viewers were less concerned about the sleeping logic and more in awe of the logistics. “Forget the bed how big is yall room,” RawT wrote. Michelle noted: “How do you have a room big enough to fit two king beds.”
