When Legendary began the
MonsterVerse
in 2014, some were skeptical. Although the 1998
Godzilla
movie was enjoyable, it lacked the grounded, haunting vibe that modern fans craved. Similarly, subsequent attempts to rejuvenate the
Godzilla
franchise fell flat. This desire is why Legendary pushed forward with something that could honor the Toho movies while also adding its own flair.
While the first
Godzilla
, directed by Gareth Edwards, was somewhat incoherent and struggled to balance the human-monster dynamic, the subsequent films did a better job. To this point, the franchise has veered into straight-up sci-fi fun, with a lot of kaiju roving the planet. As the MonsterVerse has continued expanding, it has introduced more Titans with varying powers. While some of them are well-known, there are also many lesser-known Titans that we wanted to highlight.
Updated on June 19, 2025, by Ajay Aravind:
The MonsterVerse has several upcoming plans, including a second season for the well-received TV series
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters
. With
Godzilla x Kong: Supernova
releasing on March 26, 2027, fans can expect even more Titans to join the MonsterVerse kaiju flock. Until then, this article was updated with five more entries as well as extra information.
Suko Has the Potential to Become a Powerhouse
The Baby Titan Will Grow Stronger over Time
Suko is a brand-new character introduced during the events of
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
. Partially inspired by the Son of Kong from the original
King Kong
movies,
Suko is a younger gorilla-esque Titan whom Kong meets
in the deeper section of the Hollow Earth. Eventually, Suko helps Kong and Godzilla defeat the villainous Skar King before he can bring destruction to the overworld.
Suko is far from the strongest Titan that MonsterVerse fans have met so far. Smaller and less physically formidable than his fellow Titans, Suko wouldn’t hold out in a fight against most of the other monsters introduced in the franchise. Nevertheless, he shows some promise throughout
The New Empire
, suggesting that he might grow up to be one of the MonsterVerse’s best fighters. However,
Mini Kong Suko
has a lot of growing before he ever rises higher than the bottom of this list.
The MUTOS Gave Godzilla a Serious Fight
MonsterVerse’s Earliest Villains Weren’t Very Strong
The MUTOs are the first antagonistic Titans that audiences meet in the MonsterVerse, appearing in 2014’s
Godzilla
, the film that launched the franchise. The MonsterVerse’s
MUTO is merely a placeholder term to describe the two parasitic Titans
, meaning “Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism.”The two flying beasts cause chaos on the coastline throughout the events of
Godzilla
but are eventually defeated by the titular kaiju.
The MUTOs are formidable fighters who are more than powerful enough to level a city. While they are extremely dangerous to humans, the MUTOs ultimately prove to be significantly less powerful when compared to Godzilla, who easily destroys them in the MonsterVerse’s epic first kaiju battle. Even so, losing to Godzilla is far from an embarrassing end for any Titan in the MonsterVerse.
Methuselah Could Be the Oldest Titan in Existence
Methuselah Is Also the Heaviest MonsterVerse Titan
Methuselah, named for the oldest man in Biblical history, was a fusion Titan, unlike anything viewers had seen before. The MonsterVerse introduced him as a minor ally of Ghidorah, but Methuselag eventually shifts his allegiance to Godzilla. Fans believe Methuselah might be the oldest Titan in existence, especially considering that his character design includes botany, zoology, and even geological features.
Methuselah’s gargantuan stature makes him the MonsterVerse’s heaviest Titan by biomass, outpacing even the monstrously sized King Ghidorah. And yet, he somehow also can camouflage all 170,000 tons of himself. Methuselah may not possess the violent tendencies of his Titan peers, but he can simply trample them into the ground. In terms of bulldozing power, none can compare to this lumbering Titan.
The Giant Skullcrawler Caused Epic Chaos
The Skullcrawler Held Its Own Against Kong
In
Kong: Skull Island’s
finale, Kong encountered a massive Skullcrawler. The Skullcrawler flailed Kong around a lake, and used its long tongue like a lasso, demonstrating that it was stronger than Kong by a fairly significant margin. Ultimately, the Skullcrawler whipped Kong around and crashed him into the nearby cliffs, as well.
Skullcrawler was so powerful that Kong needed the human faction on the island to fire on it as a distraction. Kong took advantage of the distraction by using the anchor and chain from a nearby downed ship to kill it. Kong was left battered, bruised, and bloodied in the wake of the Skullcrawler’s death, though. Kong realized there was more to his home than he assumed, especially as far as hidden threats were concerned.
The Frost Vark Is One of the Most Durable Titans
The Frost Vark Caused Much Havoc in Monarch
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters
introduced the Frost Vark during the characters’ visit to Alaska. One of the few known Titans to live in frigid climates, this dangerous beast makes excellent use of its surroundings. The Frost Vark is also a modernized MUTO, which means it’s far too risky for many other Titans to challenge it and emerge unscathed. What’s most surprising, however, is that a creature so large can move so quickly — on land or beneath the unbreakable permafrost.
While the strangely bioluminescent nasal tendrils have no combat function whatsoever, the Frost Vark easily gets by with a combination of devastating strength and armor plates that encase the entirety of its body. The claws it bears can slice through centuries of ice, so slashing Godzilla might not even be difficult. Finally, the Frost Vark can reduce ambient temperature so rapidly that any human in the vicinity would never survive.
Typhon Was Named After the Greek Father of Monsters
Typhon Is Yet to Have a Major MonsterVerse Role
Technically speaking, Typhon should be the King of the Monsters if Greek mythology has any value in the MonsterVerse. Born from the Greek Titans Tartarus and Gaia, Typhon went on to spawn countless other monsters — in fact, his daughter Scylla also appears as a MonsterVerse Titan. Typhon was known to be so powerful that only the thunderbolts of Zeus could defeat the beast.
However, the MonsterVerse’s Typhon is only alluded to, with his name appearing on a monitor screen in
Godzilla: King of the Monsters
. The franchise also mentions that Typhon was one of the escapees from Monarch Outpost 92, breaking out to heed the call of King Ghidorah. Typhon goes on an off-screen rampage across the Philippines, but the movie never shows him. Considering his name alone, however, Typhon cannot rank any lower on this list.
The Hawk Is One of the Strongest Aerial Titans
The Hawk Was Kong’s Ally on Skull Island
The Hawk is a giant bird-like creature who appears in the animated
Skull Island
series. Appearing in flashbacks detailing Kong’s life before the events of the series, the Hawk is a resident of Skull Island who allies itself with the larger kaiju to free their territory of the more antagonistic creatures. So far, the Hawk has yet to appear in live-action, whether movies or in the
Monarch
TV seies.
Although the Hawk’s screen time in the MonsterVerse is limited,
Skull Island
makes it clear that it isn’t a Titan to be trifled with. The Hawk is massive and therefore extremely powerful. Moreover, the Hawk has the advantage of being able to fly, giving it an aerial attack that few lesser Titans can defend against. That said, the Hawk’s relatively low strength compared to other MonsterVerse Titans is quite evident on the battlefield.
Abaddon Might Just Be the Most Terrifying Titan Yet
Abbaddon Has a Hivemind Under Its Command
The mythological Abbadon is a Biblical name for the angelic king of locusts, although the MonsterVerse version manifests itself as a malevolent spider. Various real-life animals have been used to create Titans, but increasing a spider’s size to monstrous levels and giving it additional powers is a quick way to create one of the scariest kaiju ever made. The Legendary comic,
MonsterVerse Declassified
, and the video game
Kong Survivor Instinct
fully revealed Abbadon.
According to Monarch, Abbadon has been called a bio-fossorial kaiju due to its ability to remain in perfect stasis for decades or even centuries. Abbadon has survived an onslaught from King Kong himself, although it’s individually no match for most Titans. On the other hand, the spider kaiju’s ability to command a hivemind of offspring is the reason why Abbadon is so feared. If that’s not scary enough,
Abbadon can also puppeteer human corpses
.
Camazotz Annihilated the Ecosystem of Skull Island
Camazotz Was Barely Defeated by King Kong
Named after the divine death bat in Mayan mythology, Camazotz is an enormous beast of godly status. The MonsterVerse even implies the Titan Camazotz’s appearance may have inspired Mesoamerican folklore. In any case, this creature resembles a demonic bat-mutant more than simply an enlarged bat, with horrifying features and tattered wings that complete the nightmarish effect. Camazotz’s dilapidated appearance is a testament to its battle prowess.
Monarch describes Camazotz as a ravenous Titan with the power to destroy buildings with nothing more than its voice, producing a sonic scream that can even disorient other Titans. Camazotz has a critical role in the graphic novel
Kingdom Kong
, where he engages in battle with the titular ape himself. Although he’s ultimately defeated, Camazotz’s impact completely wrecks the ecosystem of Skull Island.
The Ion Dragon Almost Mangled Godzilla Himself
The Ion Dragon Is a Superior MUTO
The Ion Dragon attacked Godzilla down in the Hollow Earth. This pterodactyl-like creature might have been smaller than a MUTO, but this gave it a tremendous advantage. It was able to push Godzilla around while spitting a sticky fluid in his face. This prevented the lizard from using his atomic breath and allowed the dragon to bite him, proving that this Titan was not only strong but also intelligent.
Previously, it took two MUTOs to put Godzilla down in the 2014 film. But
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters
had the dragon battering Godzilla as a one-man wrecking crew until Godzilla got ahold of it and ripped it apart. The Ion Dragon is clearly superior to the MUTOs that were depicted in the first MonsterVerse movie, proving his unique strength. Godzilla was left exhausted, but roaring from yet another good challenge.
