A century has passed since the colossal squid was discovered and christened, yet people have never witnessed one actively swimming in its native environment. A remote-operated device sent out from the ship had been intended for this observation.

has now obtained video of the young giant squid on March 9. This occurred close to the South Sandwich Islands in the southern part of the Atlantic Ocean, roughly 430 miles east-southeast of South Georgia Island.
Any finding of this sort is significant, however, this particular one is adorably charming. It’s not just another giant squid; it’s a juvenile.
The young squid appears nearly as clear as glass. Its see-through form highlights its inner workings, and the sluggish motion of its amber tentacles directs focus to its luminous eyes.
Researchers noted that the tips of the colossal squid’s long tentacles have two curving hooks each. Additionally, they found hooks along the center portion of all eight of its arms, which is a crucial characteristic of these creatures.
This young creature still possesses a translucent body, similar to that of glass squids. As it matures, this infant squid will gradually lose its see-through appearance.
The footage was captured at a depth of 1,968 feet, where the young squid measures almost one foot in length. An adult colossal squid has the potential to reach approximately seven feet in size and may have a weight of up to 1,110 pounds, which makes it the largest known invertebrate globally.
We have limited knowledge about the life of giant squid because observing them in their natural environment is challenging. Researchers have discovered these creatures inside the stomachs of various predators.
